Our Leadership Team

Julian Nebreda leads the Fluence team and its efforts to accelerate energy storage adoption globally, and to transform the way we power our world to ensure a more sustainable future. He brings over 20 years of experience in the energy industry as well as his expertise as a Fluence board member since September 2021.

Prior to joining Fluence, Julian was President of the South America Strategic Business Unit of The AES Corporation since October 2018. Mr. Nebreda has also acted as the President of the AES Brazil Strategic Business Unit from April 2016 to October 2018, and the President of the Europe Strategic Business Unit from 2009 to April 2016. Prior to that, Mr. Nebreda held several senior positions, such as Vice President for Central America and Caribbean from 2007 to 2009, Chief Executive Officer of Electricidad de Caracas from 2005 to 2007, and President of AES Dominicana, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic from 2003 to 2005. Mr. Nebreda serves as Chairman of the Board of AES Andes and AES Brasil. Before joining AES, Julian held positions in the public and private sectors, namely he served as Counsellor to the Executive Director from Panama and Venezuela at the Inter-American Development Bank from 1993 to 1999..

Mr. Nebreda earned a law degree from Universidad Católica Andrés Bello in Caracas, Venezuela. He also earned a Master of Laws in common law with a Fulbright fellowship and a Master of Laws in securities and financial regulations, both from Georgetown University.

Ahmed Pasha is responsible for overseeing the execution of all financial activities including the capital investments, financial reporting, planning, tax, insurance, credit management, IT, and investor relations. He has been Chief Financial Officer since 2024.

Prior to joining Fluence, Mr. Pasha was with the AES Corporation (NYSE: AES) for nearly 27 years where he served in various positions including CFO of AES' US Utilities, CFO of AES Asia, Global Treasurer & Head of Investor Relations and Business Development lead in Asia and Europe. In 2019, he was recognized by Institutional Investor as "Best IR Professional" in the Electric Utilities sector. Prior to joining Fluence, he worked with Deloitte Asia advising multinational clients on tax strategy and financial planning. Ahmed holds a Bachelor of Finance from the University of Punjab and is a qualified Chartered Accountant.

As Chief Product Officer, Rebecca Boll is responsible for developing products and services that anticipate customer needs and that leverage our leadership position within the energy storage industry. In this role, she will be leading a team of experts in market applications, marketing, and product management.

Prior to joining Fluence, she was Chief Technology Officer for the Digital Buildings business at Schneider Electric. There, she led a team assessing advanced technologies to make buildings more autonomous and sustainable. Prior to that, she was Chief Technology Officer at GE Licensing & Technology Ventures, guiding investments for technology transfer and intellectual property creation. Before that, she held various other leadership roles at GE, including starting and leading GE’s Edge Computing & Software Solutions business segment, and helping lead business, product and technology functions for GE Aviation, GE Global Research and GE Power. Before entering the private sector, Rebecca served for six years as an Electronic Combat Officer in the United States Air Force.

Rebecca received her bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics from Boston University and master’s in human relations from the University of Oklahoma.

As Chief Supply Chain and Manufacturing Officer, Pete Williams is responsible for all aspects of the end-to-end supply chain including strategic sourcing, procurement, manufacturing, logistics, safety, planning and quality assurance at Fluence.

Pete brings more than 20 years' experience and a proven track record in operational excellence, supply chain transformation, contract manufacturer management, merger and acquisition integration, and organization development to support Fluence’s continued global growth and expansion. Before joining Fluence, Pete served as Senior Vice President, Global Operations and Supply Chain for Rogers Corporation. Prior to that, he served as Vice President of Global Operations for MKS Instruments. Pete has also held senior management positions in Operations at Photon Dynamics and Applied Materials. Early in his career Pete was a Spacecraft Systems Engineer for Lockheed Martin Corporation.

Pete received his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from San Jose State University.

As Chief Human Resources Officer, Larissa Cerqueira is responsible for the Fluence Global HR Strategy and deployment, enabling the business and our employees to fulfill their highest potentials. Larissa and her global team drive all HR initiatives and operations, including organizational development, business partnering, talent management, leadership development, diversity and inclusion, talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, and payroll, among others.

Her 20+ years of experience and solid track record in people, leadership and organization development support Fluence’s continued international growth and expansion. Prior to joining Fluence, Larissa acted as VP - Global Talent Management, heading talent management for four international operational platforms under a large industrial conglomerate. With a strong background in all HR disciplines, she drove global talent strategies and initiatives across business verticals, with a strong focus on business growth and talent pipelines.

Larissa holds an MBA from Fundação Getulio Vargas as well as an undergraduate degree in psychology from Universidade de Brasília.

Vincent Mathis is Fluence’s lead attorney and has more than 20 years of legal experience counseling diverse global businesses.

Prior to joining Fluence, Vincent served as Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary at Stride. He also served as Senior Vice President, Corporate Affairs, Corporate Secretary and Chief of Staff to the CEO at The AES Corporation where he earlier was Vice President and Deputy General Counsel. Prior to his roles at The AES Corporation, Vincent was an Executive Vice President and General Counsel at ContourGlobal, LLC, a private international energy company. Previously, he worked for Venable, LLP, Shearman and Sterling, LLP, and the United States Securities and Exchange Commission. Vincent formerly served on the board of directors of Indianapolis Power and Light Company Enterprises, Inc., AES Tietê Energia S.A., and AES Elpa S.A.

In addition, he previously served on the board of directors at IPALCO Enterprises, Inc., DPL Inc. and The Dayton Power and Light Company and was Chairman of Eletropaulo Metropolitana Eletricidade de São Paulo S.A. He holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia and a B.A. in Economics and Political Science from The University of Richmond.

In his leadership role at Fluence, Marek leads the Global Strategy, Partnerships & M&A team and oversees the Commercial function of the company. He provides in-depth industry and market insights to Fluence and its customers and partners while driving growth and enhancing the efficiency of Fluence’s commercial operations.

Prior to joining Fluence, Marek was a managing director of strategic partnerships, energy storage at The AES Corporation, where he was instrumental in the development of key storage projects throughout the world, as well as the transition of the storage business from AES to Fluence.

Previously, Marek was part of the Infrastructure Investment arm of Partners Group, a global private equity firm and part of the Valuation & Strategy team at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He also founded several startups in the technology space.

Marek holds an MBA with Honors from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Diplom-Kaufmann degree from the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main.

As Senior Vice President, Chief Business Operations and Transformation Officer at Fluence, Roman Loosen oversees the Fluence Growth, Services, Marketing & Communications, as well as the Quality and Health & Safety teams, and leads the strategic transformation and accelerated growth of Fluence.

Prior to joining Fluence, Roman worked for more than 20 years at Siemens, implementing proven business transformation strategies in various roles and countries across the Siemens organization. Roman most recently served as Senior Vice President and Head of the Global Competitiveness program for Siemens Smart Infrastructure, consistently overachieving the profit improvement targets communicated to the capital markets. Prior to that, he served as Chief Financial Officer and in operational roles for various business units within Siemens, at which time, he implemented revenue transformation strategies and drove record profits. Over his more than two decades with Siemens, Roman has developed a proven track record in strategically growing new businesses and guiding accelerated organizational change.

Roman holds an MBA from FOM University of Applied Sciences for Economics and Management (Germany) as well as two bachelor’s degrees – a bachelor’s in Commercial Economics from Hogeschool Zeeland (Netherlands) and a bachelor’s in Business/Managerial Economics from Hessian Verwaltungs- und Wirtschaftsakademie (Germany).

As President of Fluence Digital, Aric Zurek leads the strategic growth of Fluence’s Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) business. Aric oversees teams of AI and data scientists, software engineers, product managers, and operations and commercial sales experts to accelerate Fluence’s digital offerings globally.

Aric brings more than 25 years of demonstrated expertise in operational and strategic business planning processes, product development, strategic and product marketing, commercial operations, cost management, and business development. He also has a strong track record of leading diverse teams and delivering results in complex, global environments.

Prior to joining Fluence, Aric served as Vice President at RedRaven, Flowserve’s complete end-to-end internet of things (IoT) solution for the industrial space. At RedRaven, Aric doubled the business two years running, developing robust digital technology platforms and related services. He has also held multiple leadership positions at leading companies within the energy sector, including General Electric, with a demonstrated history of accelerating growth with new business models and product offerings.

Aric holds a Cum Laude Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Santa Clara University, and an M.B.A. from the Santa Clara University Leavey School of Business.

As president of the Americas, John is responsible for go-to-market implementation and honing customer-centric solutions for customers in the region. Prior to this role, John acted as chief operating officer where he directed the Fluence teams that create and deliver storage solutions and services to leading customers around the world. Working with progressive power system players, John and his teams create valuable business use cases for grid-scale storage, educate storage users in these benefits, manage the deployment of new systems, and help service these systems throughout their complete lifecycle.

John was a cofounder of AES Energy Storage in 2007, a recognized market leader, and led AES' team in pioneering nearly 500 MW of utility-scale applications of battery-based energy storage projects in the U.S., Chile, the Netherlands, Northern Ireland, the Philippines, and the Dominican Republic.

Accomplishments include the deployment of the world’s largest grid connected lithium ion battery (five times), the first power purchase agreement for energy storage at the 100MW Alamitos Power Center, and the first multi-megawatt scale storage systems approved in six countries.

John is a regular industry speaker on energy storage, innovation, and leadership and is often quoted on these topics in mainstream and industry journals. Prior to energy storage, John worked at AES in retail power and fiber telecommunications, and as a consultant and market analyst to the telecommunications industry.

John holds a master's degree in public policy from the University of Michigan and a bachelor's in economics and social science from Florida State University.

As president of APAC, Jan is responsible for go-to-market implementation and honing customer-centric solutions for customers in the region. In his previous role, Jan was vice president for global markets where he oversaw Fluence’s global sales and product marketing efforts.

Prior to joining Fluence, Jan led development of Siemens’ global energy storage business, as well as serving in senior marketing and sales capacities for Eaton’s solar inverter business and Siemens in southeast Asia. Jan has worked in the fields of product development, project management, sales and marketing for over 20 years and has a deep understanding of existing power grids and the challenges they face.

While employed by major distribution systems suppliers in Europe and several Asian countries, he built broad knowledge in power distribution products and systems and solutions, for conventional and power electronics-based technologies.

Jan holds a degree in electrical engineering from University of Applied Sciences Kaiserslautern.

As president of EMEA, Paul is responsible for go-to-market implementation and honing customer-centric solutions for customers in the region. Prior to this role, he served as vice president of EMEA at Fluence where he directed the sales organization throughout Europe, Middle East and Africa regions.

Paul has diverse expertise across the Energy and Information Technology industries, having held leadership roles for more than nine years with AES Corp as Vice President Energy Storage EMEA, Chief Information Officer (CIO) for Europe and Asia, Vice President of Shared Services Europe and Mergers & Acquisitions Europe Solar.

Prior to his work with AES, Paul worked with the Saon Group in Dublin, Ireland where he was a founding member of a technology start-up, Candidate Manager Ltd. Having initially led the development of the technology, he went on to establish and build the UK division becoming COO and then CEO.

Paul has an MBA from the Ulster Business School and is a BSc Agricultural Economics & Management graduate from Queens University Belfast.

Herman Bulls has served as the Chairman of our Board of Directors since October 2021. He has spent over thirty years at JLL, currently serving as Vice Chairman, Americas, and International Director and founder of JLL’s Public Institutions business unit, which specializes in delivering comprehensive real estate solutions to nonprofit organizations, higher education institutions, and governments at the federal, state, and local levels. A thought leader and strategic advisor, Mr. Bulls guides the firm and senior executive clients on issues related to real estate occupancy, the environment, corporate governance, and social trends. Additionally, Mr. Bulls co-founded and served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Bulls Capital Partners, a multi-family financing company, and founded Bulls Advisory Group, LLC, a management and real estate advisory firm. Prior to joining JLL, Mr. Bulls completed nearly twelve years of active-duty service with the United States Army. He retired as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves in 2008 and received the Legion of Merit award for his leadership and strategic thinking skills. In November of 2021, Mr. Bulls was appointed by the United States Department of Defense (DoD) to the Defense Policy Board, which provides the Secretary of Defense and the Deputy Secretary of Defense advice and opinions concerning matters of defense policy. Mr. Bulls currently serves on the board of directors for Host Hotels and Resorts since June 2021, USAA since 2010, American Campus Communities since January 2021, Comfort Systems USA since 2001, Collegis Education since September 2020, American Red Cross since September 2016, Military Bowl by Northrup Grumman since 2010, and the West Point Association of Graduates since 1996. He holds a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School and a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Cynthia Arnold has served as a member of our Board of Directors since October 2021. Dr. Arnold is an experienced technology expert who previously served as the Chief Technology Officer for Valspar from 2011 to July 2017. In this role, Dr. Arnold led Valspar's global technology activities and became an officer of the company. Dr. Arnold joined Valspar from Sun Chemical where she served as Chief Technology Officer from 2004 to 2011. Prior to Sun Chemical, she served as Vice President, Technology, Coatings Adhesives and Specialties, for Eastman Chemical from 2003 to 2004 and in R&D and business leadership positions with General Electric from 1994 to 2003. Dr. Arnold was a Sloan Executive Science and Engineering Fellow in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, and she currently serves on the boards of Cabot Corporation, Milliken & Company, Avantium, Citrine Informatics, and on the External Advisor Board of the University of Minnesota Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science. Dr. Arnold holds a doctorate in materials science and engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and Masters of Business Administration and a bachelor’s degrees from the University of California, Berkeley.

Emma Falck has served as a member of our Board of Directors since September 2021. Ms. Falck currently serves as Head of Strategy of Smart Infrastructure at Siemens since September 2020. She also
served as Managing Director and Partner at the Boston Consulting Group from May 2017 to August 2020, Vice President, Greater China Area New Equipment, and China Frontline Product Strategy
and Marketing for the KONE Corporation from 2015 to April 2017. At KONE, Ms. Falck also served as Director, Greater China Area New Equipment, and China Frontline Product Strategy and Marketing
from 2014 to 2015 and Director of Strategy Development from 2012 to 2014. She holds a Master of Science and a Doctor of Science philosophy degree in engineering physics from Aalto University.

Elizabeth Fessenden has served as a member of our Board of Directors since October 2021. Ms. Fessenden is a strategic leader with demonstrated success in profit and loss management from
over twenty-five years as a senior executive with Fortune 100 global industrial manufacturing company, Alcoa Inc, and private equity firm American Capital. At American Capital, Ms. Fessenden served as Principal, Operations Team from 2005 to 2007. At Alcoa Inc, Ms. Fessenden most recently served as President, Flexible Packaging, from 2002 to 2005. Prior to that role, she served as President, Primary Metals Allied Businesses from 2000 to 2002, Director, Executive Staffing and Leadership Development from 1998 to 2000, and Smelting Plant Manager from 1994 to 1998. Ms. Fessenden has extensive experience as a board director and leader for public and private companies including experience as chair of Compensation, Governance, Audit, and CEO Search. She currently serves as an Independent Director on a number of boards of directors, including at Meritor since June 2021, Alpha Metallugical Resources since February 2021, Ampco-Pittsburgh Corporation since August 2017, and Plan International USA since November 2017. She holds a Master of Business Administration, master’s degree in systems engineering, and bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Clarkson University.

Harald von Heynitz has served as a member of our Board of Directors since October 2021. Mr. von Heynitz is a senior accountant and auditor certified in Germany and the United States with extensive experience in accounting, auditing, financial, and business advisory. He has been registered in own practice since January 2020, and started as a member of management of FAS Steuerberatungsgesellschaft mbH, Munich in March 2020. Mr. von Heynitz worked for KPMG in Munich and New York for thirty-three years. He became a partner in 1999 and has served as Audit Lead Partner and/or Global client Lead Partner at large publicly listed companies including Siemens, Airbus Group, and Linde. During the last fifteen years, he held different leadership positions within KPMG, including serving as the Partner in charge of the Audit function for Southern Germany from 2004 to 2007 and member of the KPMG Europe LLP Board from 2007 until 2012. Mr. von Heynitz currently serves as Chairman of the Audit, Compliance and Related Party Transactions Committee and Member of the Appointments and Remunerations Committee for the Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA board of directors. He graduated with a degree in business administration from the University of Munich and has been certified as a tax consultant and certified public accountant in Germany for more than twenty-five years. He is also a certified public accountant in the United States and has been a member of the AICPA since 1997.

Barbara Humpton has served as a member of our Board of Directors since September 2021. She is President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Corporation, where, since July 2018, she guides the
company’s strategy and engagement in serving the company’s largest market. Previously, Ms. Humpton spent 2015 to 2018 as President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens Government Technologies, Inc., a leading integrator of Siemens’ products and services for federal government agencies. Prior to joining Siemens in 2011, she served as a Vice President at Booz Allen Hamilton where she was responsible for program performance and new business development for technology consulting in the U.S. Department of Justice and U.S. Department of Homeland Security. She has also served as Vice President at Lockheed Martin Corporation, where she was responsible for Biometrics Programs, Border and Transportation Security, and Critical Infrastructure Protection. Ms. Humpton holds a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Wake Forest University.

Tish Menoza has served as a member of our Board of Directors since September 2022. She currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at AES. Since joining AES in 2006, Tish has initiated holistic transformations to their culture, communication strategies and talent development programs. Evanta recognized Tish for her leadership and named her a “Top 10 Breakaway Leader in HR” in 2013, and Latino Leaders Magazine named her as a “Top Latino Executive in Corporate America.”

Tish studied management, leadership, organizational development, and human resources through programs at Villanova University, Strayer University, University of Maryland University College and University of Virginia’s Darden School of Business. She earned various certificates in business management, leadership and a bachelor’s degree in business administration and human resources.

Axel Meier is a member of our Board of Directors and had served as a member of the board of directors of Fluence Energy, LLC since January 2020. Since April 2019, Mr. Meier has served as Chief Financial Officer of Siemens Smart Infrastructure. From 2015 until starting his current role, Mr. Meier was the Chief Financial Officer of Siemens Building Technologies. He started his career at Siemens Germany in 1988 with increasing responsibilities in businesses pertaining to Communications, Industry and Infrastructure. Mr. Meier graduated from the University of Siegen in Germany with a financial degree in financial business management.

John Christopher Shelton is a member of our Board of Directors and had served as a member of the board of directors of Fluence Energy, LLC since January 2018. Mr. Shelton currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Product Officer of AES and President of AES Next, the strategic venture arm of AES. He began his tenure at AES in 1994, previously serving as President of AES Energy Storage, Vice President of New Energy Solutions, and as Chief Technology Innovation Officer. Mr. Shelton currently serves on the board of directors of Uplight, a privately held software-as-service customer platform for utilities. Mr. Shelton served as Chairman of the Board of the Electricity Storage Association from 2011 to 2013. Mr. Shelton is listed as an inventor on 16 patents, 8 of which are grid energy storage related. Mr. Shelton holds a B.S. from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and executive certificates in Strategy and Innovation from The Sloan School of Management at MIT and Organizational Leadership from The McDonough School of Business at Georgetown University.

Simon James Smith is a member of our Board of Directors and had served as a member of the board of directors of Fluence Energy, LLC since June 2021. Mr. Smith has worked for Qatar Investment
Authority, the Sovereign Wealth Fund of Qatar, since 2012. He is an Industrials Director covering a global portfolio of public and private investments. Prior to joining Qatar Investment Authority, Mr. Smith spent 10 years working in equity research, as the sector head of European Capital Goods at Credit Suisse, and at Citigroup covering the Capital Goods and Transportation sectors. He additionally worked for a number of investment firms in London at the beginning of his career. Mr. Smith graduated from the University of Bristol with a BSc in Mathematics and has a Masters in Finance with distinction from London Business School.

Ricardo Falú has served as a member of the Fluence Board of Directors since September 2022. He currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy and Commercial Officer at AES. Ricardo has brought his diverse experiences in energy, finance, legal and business to AES over the last 19 years. Under his leadership as President of the Andes SBU and CEO of AES Andes, including AES Chile, AES Colombia and AES Argentina, Ricardo launched the transformational Greentegra strategy to accelerate the decarbonization of Chile, advance the diversification of Colombia’s electricity system, and support energy integration with Argentina.

Prior to his role as President of the Andes SBU and CEO of AES Andes, Ricardo served as the CFO for AES businesses in the Andes and in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean regions. Since joining AES in 2003, Ricardo has accelerated the company’s transformation through additional leadership roles in Corporate Finance, FP&A, Investor Relations, M&A and Strategy.

Ricardo is a National Public Accountant as certified by the Universidad Nacional de Salta in Argentina and graduated summa cum laude with an Executive MBA from IAE Business School. He continued his education through executive financial, business and management programs at Darden Business School, The Wharton School and Harvard Business School.
